Week 15 (MKTG 347) - Google is Your New Resume

Image
Back then when the Internet was barely used for anything employers would have to make an assumption as to what kind of person you were through your resume, a piece of paper that you wrote. Now, all an employer has to do to know more about you besides from your interview and resume is through Google. All they have to do is search your name and they can find things like your social media networks, your websites, and if you have been on someone else's Facebook page. They can see a lot of your personal life and it will help them determine if you are a good candidate for their business. There are a few things you can do to help the case of your Google resume, the first is to edit, which means you need to Google yourself look at anything that pops up and remove posts you do not want your employer to see on your social media or websites. After that if you are able to fill out a profile on your accounts specifically Twitter or LinkedIn, I recommended filling it out and making it look nic

Week 14 (MKTG 347) - The World of Job-Hunting

Image
When you enter that job-hunting world it is a completely different place than the world of employment. Now I am going to go back to some of the basics of job-hunting to further help some of you. One thing you need to know about this new world is employers change, but job-hunters have not. Employers adapt to the time, they search one way during good times and another during bad times. Also, the average amount of time the job-hunt takes has increased by a lot, nearly 17 to 30 percent of the unemployed spend more than a year looking for a job. The average amount of time that a job lasts had decreased, which is not a good sign when the job-hunt is taking longer and the length of jobs are becoming shorter. Especially for those between the ages of 18 and 24, their jobs usually last a year or less. You need to know that now a day jobs are paying a lot less than they did in the early 2000's, there is a long list of jobs that do not pay that much. Most of the job-hunting process today tak

Week 14 (MKTG 349 OL) - Best Search Engine Marketing Agencies

Image
I have talked so much about how you can use Google AdWords and other tools for search engine marketing, but if you are looking for job where you do all this there are some really great agencies that will suit your wants and needs for this kind of job. One of them is Thrive Internet Marketing, it is considered a 5 out 5 place to work if you really want to go into the search engine marketing route. Another agency is Ignite Digital, it is based on Canada and their job is to help boost online marketing goals for their clients. They do this by focusing on efficiency, automation, accountability, and structure. SEOValley is another great search engine agency, they are an award-winning digital marketing company. The mainly focus on pay-per-click strategies, link acquisition, and content marketing. The reason I am bringing information about search engine agencies that are good places to work is because there are not enough people who do this kind of work. Search engine marketing is up and com

Week 14 (MKTG 347) - Brands Who Are Best At Using Social Media

Image
I have talked so much about how to use social media to the benefit of your company and how some social media networks could help you business. I have even gone through how each of these networks can be used correctly when marketing your business, but now I am just going to talk about brands that have taken into hand all the things I have mentioned and how they have made a good social media presence using those tips. Usually people can find mistakes and terrible ads that brands post on social media, but it is hard to find ones that really excel at it. One brand that does really well at social media is Netflix, they are really good at understanding their audience and what content they like to see. They even use the phrase "Netflix & Chill" as a joke when making posts. Another brand is Dove, they are constantly making posts that are encouraging and positive. They are dedicated to helping women realize how beautiful they all are. They make content that is aimed at making wo

Week 13 (MKTG 347) - How to Start Your Own Business

Image
If your job-hunt isn't going so well there is another option, it may be a bit of stretch, but it is another route you could take. Start your own business, it may be difficult at first but it can turn into something great! Sometimes people have certain dreams they want to fulfill and they can't find the right job for it, so starting your own business you could do just that. You can start your own website, create your blog if you love to write, or if you love baking desserts and pastries you could open up your own bakery. There are somethings you should think about and do before diving deep into this idea. First, you should think about what kind of business you want to go into, write down a list of things that interest you and characteristics about yourself that will contribute to your decision. Next, do some research on other business like the one you have decided on and get some input from them. Decide how the business will run whether you are doing it solo, through a partner

Week 13 (MKTG 349 OL) - Best SEM Practices

Image
When using search engine marketing as a method for your businesses, these are the best practices to use when doing it. First off, these practices help you get a better understanding of what to focus on when using search engines to market your brand. The first practice is keyword research and analysis, when customers want to know more about something they search it up on the Internet. If you identify the right keywords and think outside the box, your ads will appear on more searches and ones that are related to your product. Another practice is search engine optimization, after you have gotten your keywords down creating relevant content is the next step. Valuable and exceptional content that relates to your keyword helps get your business to the top. Pay per click is the next practice and it is a paid form of search engine marketing where you place a certain amount of money (bid) to put your ad up. Depending on the amount of money you put in determines when your ad shows up and how l

Week 13 (MKTG 347) - The Power of Instagram

Image
One social media marketing tool that I have not mentioned much throughout my posts is Instagram. The benefits it provides for a business is incredible, and they have upgraded to so many different features that users just love! On Instagram you can post pictures, collages, or slideshows of pictures. You can also edit and filter your posts, make Instagram stories (like Snapchat). They allow you to tag people in your post, as well as, putting a location. For each post you can make a caption and consumers can interact with you business through comments or direct messaging. If you see a photo/video you like you can save it and put it in one of your collections. Now moving on to more of the business side of Instagram, it generates more engagement than the other social media networks. It generates 29% more engagement than Facebook and 60% more than Twitter. It is really good at getting consumers more involved in your brand. It is has about 400 million users and 75 million daily users, so th

Week 12 (MKTG 347) - Ways To Help You Change/Choose Your Career

Image
There are so many career options out there that anyone could find a job that they love. Now to help you choose what kind of career best suits you, you can go to O*Net Online, which is a website that can really help you determine a job that is right for you. It is more accurate than other websites that you can find on the Internet, it has so many jobs classified in many ways that will find the perfect one for you! Assessments are another great way to help find a job that suits you best. You will discover things about yourself and the job you want and this will help you analyze what is best for you. Another way to help you decide is to use the flower exercise, which is similar to an assessment. The break down of it is that it gives you the building blocks of who you are. This will help you match a career to you. You can put down 5 favorable skills and fields and all this can help narrow down what you like and what you are good at. Lastly, you need to find out what the job-market needs,

Week 12 (MKTG 347) - How Much Does Social Media Marketing Cost?

Image
Now that you know how beneficial and effective social media marketing is a business, you need to start thinking about the costs for it. Although, social media marketing is a cheaper method of marketing you still got to put in some money to gain something out of it. If you plan on hiring a company to help you with your marketing you should think about these 4 things. They are content creation, follower growth, social advertising, strategy and employees. The company you plan on hiring should provide you with these services if you want your company to succeed. Now moving on to how much all of this is going to cost, and remember this isn't and exact number, it's an estimation that will help give you an idea of how much it will cost. You can hire a college intern, they probably don't have much experience and it's temporary, but they are either free or low paid. You can hire a freelancer, aka a consultant, they require more pay, but they have experience and more knowledge a

So, there is a good chance that this issue won't last long. Don't thing you are alone in this game, everyone has deal with these burdens when looking for a job. Week 11 (MKTG 347) - Social Media Marketing Is Still Underrated

Image
I have talked about the effects and benefits of social media marketing many times through out all my blog posts, but yet it is still an underrated method of marketing. There are several reasons social media marketing is considered underrated to many businesses. The first reason is because many believe it is just a trend and that is all that it is. No one seems to look at the number of users each social media platform has, Facebook has reached more than 1.2 billion users. Another reason is that people place more value on things that cost more, other forms of marketing cost more than social media marketing, so they assume that is where their focus should be. Another reason is that the return on investment (ROI) is hard to measure, so businesses do not want to invest in something where they don't know if social media helped increase/decrease sales or if it even brought more awareness to the brand. One last reason it is underrated is because of the lack of investment companies put in

Week 10 (MKTG 349 OL) - Common Mistakes Companies Make While Using AdWords

Image
Google AdWords isn't something your company needs to be perfect at, but it should try and do well because AdWords is a very effective marketing strategy. Your company can really benefit from using AdWords and creating campaigns and ads through there. When people do searches on Google and your advertisement is one of the first to come up, you need to make a good impression on consumers. So, here are some mistakes companies make when using Google AdWords. This information comes from an article from the Entrepreneur website, written by Eric Siu and he states that the first mistake is targeting keywords that are too broad, instead of using five to ten keywords try expanding more, which will help with a positive ROI. The second he lists is sending traffic directly to your homepage and for this step you have to try and make the trip to your homepage as easy as possible for consumers. If it takes them a long time to get the information they need they lose interest. One last mistake is n

Week 10 (MKTG 347) - Choosing Where You Work

Image
Some people will choose a place of employment because they really need a job or because they want to work there. Here are five steps that job-hunters think will be very helpful and beneficial to people who are looking for a new job. The first step is to find out what careers or work fit your skills and personality best. The second is try on some of the jobs before you pick one to pursue. Next comes finding out what kinds of organizations have the job that fits what you are looking for. Fourth, find names of particular places that interest you. The last step is to research the place you have chosen carefully, to see if it is a right fit for you. After this whole process is done remember to send thank you cards to all the employers who you have interviewed for. I know this seems like much, but it will make you look like a better candidate for the job. One last tip is to be more social, because the more social you are the more friends or people you know who may have a contact that could
