Week 11 (MKTG 347) - Social Media Marketing Is Still Underrated
I have talked about the effects and benefits of social media marketing many times through out all my blog posts, but yet it is still an underrated method of marketing. There are several reasons social media marketing is considered underrated to many businesses. The first reason is because many believe it is just a trend and that is all that it is. No one seems to look at the number of users each social media platform has, Facebook has reached more than 1.2 billion users. Another reason is that people place more value on things that cost more, other forms of marketing cost more than social media marketing, so they assume that is where their focus should be.
Another reason is that the return on investment (ROI) is hard to measure, so businesses do not want to invest in something where they don't know if social media helped increase/decrease sales or if it even brought more awareness to the brand. One last reason it is underrated is because of the lack of investment companies put in social media. It can't just be done easily, it needs to be planned, researched, and strategically executed. The more a business learns how to implement social media marketing effectively, the more beneficial it will be for your business.
