You can get certificates in Google AdWords and Analytics, also in web-analytics. All this will help make you more skilled in SEO and more qualified to obtain a job in that industry. When thinking about getting a job in this field, look at the main goals of the job. SEO looks at building content, social, search, and analytics. Week 9 (MKTG 348 OL) - Keeping Up With Changes

Image
One thing to always remember when working with search engine optimization is to always keep up with changes that are happening! For example, Google is always changing and evolving and so are their algorithms. To accommodate to these changes, the SEO world is always offering workshops, blogs, seminars, webinars, panel discussions, and conventions. All those events will help make sure people are always up-to-date on SEO. Although Google does not always like to let the world in on how they are evolving and they do this because they do not want others to capitalize on this information. One great SEO update that Google had was their Mobilegeddon, this would penalize any websites that were not mobile friendly. To help you keep up sometimes all you have to do is read an article or a blog and this will definitely help give you an insight on how the SEO industry has changed. I recommend websites such as, searchengine.com, moz.com, and semrush.com. Knowing about SEO is not enough if you don...

Week 8 (MKTG 348 OL) - Indexing, Webmaster Tools, and Search Console

Image
Do you ever wonder how Google indexes all of its websites? Say you want to search your own website on Google, you could type in Site:yourdomain.com and it will help narrow down the searches for your website. By making this search smaller it is their way of indexing all the websites on Google. Now creating and managing a website is a lot easier now a day than it was back then, but most businesses with their own website still have someone (usually known as a webmaster) to handle the technical parts of the website. The technical parts could include working on the web server and other related systems. At times a company could have a very large website which can require a whole team of people to take care of creating and managing it. The Google search console will help you add and manage properties and they will help you make sure everything is on track. If you want an easier way to create a website I recommend Wix.com, it is what I use when I need to create my own. They have many differe...

Week 7 (MKTG 348 OL) - Analyzing How Things Are Going

Image
For today, I will be talking about to measure the performance of your SEO efforts. Measuring your performance is a great way to know whether the time and effort you have put in is giving you positive results or if someone is paying you or you are paying them what the return on investment is. One of your top goals should be to reach the top of the search results. One way to measure your performance is checking your SEO rank for your website and you can look at rank for your website depending on each keyword. You need to learn to maintain and increase that rank to continue a positive performance. Make sure your website never has duplicate content, so if multiple pages on your website have the same content remove it. Don't be repetitive, it turns off users and they are more likely not going to come back to your website. Getting certified in in Google Analytics is also a great way to help you put in more effort to increase your websites' performance. Thinking about the social, co...

Week 6 (MKTG 348 OL) - Try SEO

Image
In order to get more practice with SEO you can start off by doing simple things like creating a blog post. By doing this you will learn that you have to come up with good content when writing your posts and picking good keywords for searches. You can create your blogs on blogger.com and once you have started your account you can go through the website and explore its tools. There is a tab that is called search description where you can put in keywords, so when people search using those keywords your blog will appear. To go further into trying SEO out you can create campaigns on Google AdWords. On here you can create ads for your business. You will have to put in some money to keep your ads running on Google though. It has a bit of the same concept as the blogs, you can put in certain keywords so that when a person does a search using one of your keywords your ad will appear. There is more to it and you can do more research on it by doing your own campaign and exploring AdWords. Lin...

Week 4 (MKTG 348 OL) - Keyword Research

Image
Choosing keywords for your campaign on AdWords is really important. Any keywords you put in for your campaign will help your ad pop up on a users screen when they search for something using one of the keywords you put in for your campaign. There are so many features on AdWords that when you start your campaign you probably do not know about all these features. Sometimes Google will help you out by analyzing your campaign and make suggestion on things you can use to help improve your campaign. Back to keywords, you should do some research on websites or pages that relate to your campaign and think about the keywords people would type into the search bar to get to those websites and pages. Then list those keywords for you ad so that it can pop up on a users screen when they search for those websites and pages. The goal for keywords is to help you get as high as a rank as possible for your ad. Some advice I would give when writing your advertisement is to look at the Google article on h...

Image
To know more about SEO, you have to know the basics first, this will help you get a better understanding of it all. First, you have to know where the content is going and usually it goes into social media and ad campaigns. Now for content SEO this basically what you need to know about it, you have to add more content, then this will help you get more visitors, and more visitors equals more Google notices, then you will get a higher rank on Google, and lastly, your website will increase in value. Another basic step you need to know about for SEO is keywords. Especially when creating ads on Google where you can select specific keywords that will be associated with your website. So, when consumers search one of the keywords you selected your website will be one of the ones to appear on their search results. Week 2 (MKTG 348 OL) - Content in SEO

Image
A company may already have its own ideas and systems for content, but sometimes it may need to develop more when ideas are running low. Three things to think about when working on content for search engine optimization is curation, creation, and collaboration. Let's start with curation, this is where you go out and do something, then review it, comment about it, give your opinion. All this could just be to gather information you may need for your job or for your own personal reasons. This is to help bring relevant, compelling, and satisfying content to your company or page. Next is creation, this can have a huge impact on your search engine optimization, but can also be a really cool and fun process to work through. Getting creative is what helps consumers come to your page and stay on it for quite some time and if the quality of the content is really good it gives them a reason to come back. The third thing to think about is collaboration, which is helpful to a lot of individual...

Week 1 (MKTG 348 OL) - Intro to SEO

Image
There are two big aspects to search engine and they usually get confused as the same thing, they are search engine optimization and search engine marketing. I am going to let you know the main differences between the two because they are similar, but do have their differences. To start it off, search engine optimization is the process of maximizing the number of consumers to a certain website or page, so that page/website is higher on the list of results. As for search engine marketing that is a form of Internet marketing that promotes a brand/company and increasing their visibility on search engine results. Some other things that make these two fields different is that the search engine optimization field is changing continuously because of the changes Google has been making, so in the SEO field they have to keep up. SEO includes things like making blog posts, social sharing integration in your content, and incorporating selective keywords. SEM includes things like paid search, camp...
