Week 2 (MKTG 347) - The Basics

Today I am going to be talking about the basics of Social Media Marketing and the skills needed for a business to have a good presence on social networks. Now, something businesses should look at when using social media as a way to market their brand is by looking at the return on investment generated, which measures the financial return when a business, organization or anyone at all spends money on social media marketing. One of the main skills in digital marketing is being able to market on social media, it's what many companies look for in a marketer.

Social media marketing is connected to search engine optimization because in order for a business to get higher search engine rankings to create content on your website which is where people will see your business and if they like it enough they will share it with other people. People share the information they find through social media and if you are going to post something a blog or information social media is the perfect place to do that! There are two important aspects in business they are B2B and B2C and they stand for business to business and business to consumer. When marketing to a business or consumer there are some similarities and differences, research is something you have to do for both, but for a consumer it may not be as excessive as it would be for a business.

Engagement and Public Relations are important parts of social media marketing. You want to engage your audience in your business and products by holding contests, promotions, articles, videos, etc. This way people are talking about you or with you. The public relations department wants to generate buzz and they want the news that is involved with the business to be good, sometimes it can be bad and the PR department does not want that. They want to gain attention, but for good reason.
